25 years ago I joined a unique club in Marietta started by the Marietta Noon Rotary Club to allow more people who live in Marietta to live the Rotary life; the Rotary Club of Marietta Morning.
Initially led by our founding president Charlie Schob, we early-on bragged that we were the “young, hip” club in Marietta while the Rotary Club of Marietta (noon club) was ”the old men and their fathers” who wrote checks and did little physical project work. Well, now that has changed a bit as the noon club sometimes gets to the young professionals before we do….but, most visitors agree, we are a “fun” club.
Famous for our very active and athletic projects, such as our signature Charlie Schob Discovery Garden at 7th and Greene Streets in Marietta, as we have aged we have slowed a bit but continue to provide beautification projects throughout the City of Marietta, Ohio. Throughout the years we have demonstrated our green thumbs through several projects; we helped the noon club in a joint Rotary bicentennial beautification project at the Putnam Street entrance to the River Trail, we have provided continuous planting/care/maintenance of Discovery Gardens since 1992 and for the last several years we have adopted several blocks of downtown Marietta for the annual Clean Sweep days in the spring. Older, yes, wiser, no as we continue to break our backs to make Marietta just a little bit more beautiful than she already is. If you like to grub in the dirt and have the patience to see things grow visit us during our weekly meeting and find out how much fun we can have together.
